Capabilities
Rick Lewis – Regional Manager – QLD & NSW
Rick has over twenty years experience as a Senior Manager in a wide range of businesses spanning the public and private sectors, and has complimented this comprehensive managerial expertise by studying extensively. Rick joined Altus Traffic in February 2010 as QLD Manager with over six years operational experience in the traffic management industry as well as being Level 3 & 4 Main Roads accredited. Rick’s expertise was also recognised by the Industry, when he was appointed the inaugural President of the Traffic Management Association of Queensland. He has represented the Industry on various Queensland Government committees, such as the Traffic Control Working Party which consisted of representatives from the Department of Transport & Main Roads to provide a superior Traffic Control training and licensing system by the end of 2010 and the Traffic Control Task Force, which was formed to implement the recommendations that emanated from Commissioner Don Brown’s inquiry into the traffic control industry.
Chris Thornton – QLD Manager / WHSO
Chris has been involved in the traffic management industry for almost a decade and has a broad base of experience extending to Contract Management, the implementation of Quality Assurance and Workplace Health & Safety Systems and the development of staff training initiatives. Chris also played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Traffic Management Association of Queensland (TMAQ) and, like Rick Lewis, has figured on a number of Committees working with a range of stakeholders to initiate reforms to industry Licensing and Training benchmarks. Chris is a certified Workplace Health & Safety Officer, Return to Work and Rehabilitation Co-ordinator, Certificate IV Trainer and is accredited to Level 4 under the Transport and Main Roads (TMR) training program. His focus on safety and emphasis on professional service provision will be the driving forces behind Altus Traffic’s ongoing development and growth.
David Brittain – QLD Operations Manager / WHSO
David previously worked in the Civil Construction Industry for 25 years before starting work as a traffic controller on the Sunshine Coast 12 years ago. David has experience on every type of traffic control scenario and is at his best when supervising a team of traffic controllers undertaking a complex ‘switch’ of traffic. David has recently completed his Certificate IV in Frontline Management and he is a qualified Workplace Health & Safety Officer, as well as being Level 3 & 4 Main Roads accredited. His primary role for Altus is to ensure the quality of the traffic controllers and equipment we supply is of the highest possible standard guaranteeing the safety of everyone on or near our work sites.
Rohan Livingstone – QLD Business Development Manager
Dip. Bus Admin
Rohan came from the financial industry to traffic management five years ago. Rohan’s attention to detail and expertise in applying good business practices laid the ideal platform for him to become a successful Business Development Manager in the traffic management industry. Rohan has successfully managed the traffic management on major projects such as the Gateway Duplication and Ipswich/Logan Motorway Upgrade, so he has a working understanding of what a prospective customer will want and he works professionally and diligently to ensure we meet our clients’ needs.
Jim Allen – Trainer / WHSO / Field Supervisor
Jim has been a traffic control Trainer for the last 15 years. He is qualified to deliver the Level 1 and 2 courses, as well as being accredited to deliver the Civil Construction General Induction course (White Card). Additionally, Jim is also a qualified Workplace Health & Safety Officer, but his real passion is mentoring new recruits and seeing them develop into high quality professional traffic controllers.
Col Northey – Somerset Supervisor
Col is Level 3 & 4 Main Roads accredited and has been in the industry for more than 5 years. Col has experience working in various environments and has proven a successful leader on many of our more complex jobs. Col’s focus on safety and quality meant that he quickly rose to an Area Supervisor with Altus, often supervising 15 crews at any one given time. Col has been the Somerset Supervisor for the last year and has developed a group of highly skilled and safe traffic controllers, most of who live within the Somerset Council area.
People and Recruitment
Altus has a full time HR expert working in the business along with substantial HR support at State level. All operational staff involved in recruitment are mentored by our HR manager and robust recruitment systems are employed to raise the bar with respect to gaining employment with Altus. In addition, Altus has national agreements with a number of larger recruiters further assisting our recruitment efforts in those times of higher recruiting requirements. Overall, Altus has the systems and people in place to ensure we are well resourced at all times.
RTO and Training
Altus Traffic Pty Ltd is currently in the process of becoming a Registered Training Organization. This will enable us to conduct training internally giving Altus the ability and flexibility to supply all staff with high level accreditations and competencies as required, for both planned and unplanned needs. We believe there are significant efficiencies to be gained by becoming an RTO which in turn benefits our clients. Certification is expected towards mid 2011.
Fleet
Altus Traffic currently has a fleet in excess of 300 vehicles with a combination of light trucks and utility vehicles. Altus has a long standing relationship with Toyota Australia and has senior corporate account management in place. Altus management and Toyota Australia have regular planning meetings to ensure our requirements are well catered for and vehicles are available as and when required to meet our operational needs.
Altus fleet maintenance is managed by Fleetcare Australia, a specialist provider of fleet management solutions. Fleetcare are an active part of the Altus business and work tirelessly with our State Managers ensuring their fleet is maintained to a high level of readiness for all operational requirements. All vehicles in our fleet enjoy roadside assistance which minimises the operational risk associated with those vehicle issues that do occur from time to time. Our fleet is covered 24/7 ensuring no delays or issues.
In addition to our ability to resource our own new vehicles, Altus have national supply agreements in place with hire car companies, Europcar, Budget and Thrifty. This ensures that even at a moment’s notice we are able to meet short term spikes in our customer’s requirements.
Altus also own and can supply as required water barriers, pedestrian barriers, containment fencing, variable message boards, static notice boards, trailer mounted arrow boards, portable traffic lights, crash attenuators and have an installation team for temporary and long term sites to compliment its Traffic Management service.
Systems and IT
Altus has invested in state of the art IT systems to support all facets of the business. Scheduling, invoicing and payroll are all part of an integrated system that ensure higher degrees of accuracy in invoicing but also significant reporting capability for our customers. CRM and HRM systems assist the business in tracking all training and ensuring transparency in ensuring all members of the team are appropriately trained and meet the requirements of any job they attend. Altus currently roster upwards of 900 staff per day and have the IT system capability to manage many more.
Altus runs of a significant IT platform, with the servers housed at a state of the art collocation site, ensuring maximum connectivity and insurance against power outages and downtime. All systems have dual backups with automatic cutovers in the event of a serious server failure. This guarantees their ability to always be ready to meet all requirements at all times.
